Aloha amigos!
This is where we will make a list with pictures, links and information of all the classic Tiki power places (bars, museums, amusement parks etc...) around the world outside of the U.S.A. The new Tiki bars are welcome too.
Mahalo for participating!

In no particular order...

  1. Mauna Loa (Mexico City - San Jeronimo) Closed

A personal favorite, my parents used to take me there.

Aloha a todos!
Did any other bar used that Marquesas Picasso tiki? Why they used that one? Maybe they got inspired by this old book:

Arte de los Pueblos Oceanicos.

Just put on Ebay a hard to find book of Mauna Loa Mexico matches. Great flamingo and tiki graphics. Can't get the link thing to work so if you search for Mauna loa matchbook on Ebay it should come up for you. Thanks

I'm listing this exotic vintage color postcard from the Restaurante Mauna Loa, which used to be located in Mexico City's Zona Rosa neighbourhood. URL:

Here is the coaster in that photo...but who has that BOWL?

...and who has those Suzie Wong, Escorpion or Singapore Sling mugs!? :)

And to not only make this a Mauna Loa thread, but as Zeta suggested, a worldwide (x-ept America and Polynesia) Tiki thread, here two shots I recently received from a German journalist, from his family album. There is an amusement park near Cologne called Fantasialand. I myself shot an action movie there in the mid-90s, and remember noticing some carved railing posts that smelled like Tiki to me -but nothing else.

Turns out they used to have a full fledged South Seas attraction with Hawaiian restaurant that all disappeared in the 80s:

Funny how the Tiki looks Milan Guanko-style, they must have copied it from an American theme park

Wow! Great stuff.

All I have to add at the moment is my Mauna Loa swizzle.

Here is an entry from the Aku Tiki Restaurant in Acapulco. This is the one with the album cover shot that Sabu posted. This is a great little menu shaped like a tiki.

The cover

Inside the cover.

Sampling of the menu.

The back - signed by the visitor.

I just remembered I had an old image from the Mauna Loa in Mexico that I had grabed from an ebay sale a long time ago. Check out this great interior shot.

Here's one for Sven. Apparently it's Tiki Time in Hamburg!

Asombrosa revelación!
It seems to me one of the Tiki Wonders of the world (well, of Europe at least).
I have a lots of questions...
Had they gift shop?
Any flea markets near Cologne? :)

And...why nobody here seems to care about it?
Maybe you see this kind of things everyday.
I don´t for sure.

I totally agree here, is this not as spectacular (on the outside at least) as the Tiki room at Disneyland.
Mr Naufrago, ask your questions I want to know more too.
I wonder how many more of these gems were to be found in Europe.

Found this article recently in the Guardian about the Kon Tiki Village near St. Tropez in the South of France, I've been meaning to visit here for a few years now but never got the time.
Would be the perfect place for a European festival.

What about this Mauna Loa salt shaker?

Very nice. I like the pealing paint, what an artifact.

Look who I came across in Paris!:

Unfortunately, he is not quite as big as the original :D :

...and he is missing the X across the chest that the Mauna Loa version sports.
