Arthur Lyman and the hunt for a good Mai-Tai

Yeah, that "Mai Tai" that Kevin Crossman reviewed may have been the best drink he sampled in Hawaii, but it was NOT a Mai Tai. Pineapple juice? No lime juice? What's up with that?!

In one of his other Mai Tai reviews he even states "I'm no Mai Tai expert".

Of course those reviews were written years ago, so maybe Keven Crossman has since become more discerning. Maybe he even posts here on Tiki Central.

Nevertheless, he makes up for it all by stating that Arthur Lyman was better than the (faux) Mai Tai.

The pix show table #1 with a lady and then a man sitting in prime position to enjoy Atta, and was my usual seat when it was Lyman time at the New Otani. He was one funny and gracious man.
The last time I was there I booted the show and cherish the recording if for no other reason than it was just before he went into the hospital and never made it out alive.

We lost a huge hunk of Hawaii when he left us.

"Expert" label comes from Tiki Road Trip author James Taitelbuam, not me.

I think it's perfectly fair to call Hawaiian Mai Tais "Mai Tais" as long as you're being transparent about the pineapple juice. I like those drinks. I like traditional 1944 Mai Tais much better. But the Hawaiian Mai Tais are fine especially in Hawaii.
