Is my tiki nodder old?

I can usually sniff out vintage vs "retro/repro" but I am not an aficionado of tiki nodders. I think I initially thought she was repro but now I am leaning the other way. She has too much character. anyway, I appeal to the noddo-philes in the group, what do you think?

btw, other than "Aloha" on the front, there are no words or markings other than the remnants of an oval sticker on the bottom. and yes, that's a magnet on the bottom.

Did you get it on Ebay?
There was a guy selling nodders on Ebay, forget the name.
But day after day week after week he would have old rare nodders.
Now I guess he could have that many but...
It is one of those things that make you go Hmmmm.

I for one can't tell if yours is old.
But when you buy things on Ebay look at what
the guy has sold in the past.
It may tell you to back off of that auction.

That's a Hula Girl nodder, not a Tiki nodder.

Hula nodders with magnets were generally made in the 50's and 60's.This is a vintage nodder,
however you would not think so with how good the skirt condition is .
I have a vast collection of these, maybe I will post someday.

I have her twin sister. I picked her up back in 95 or 96 while in college.
The oval sticker on the bottom said "Made in Japan" and like yours, there are no manufacturer's stamp on it anywhere. I kinda wish they hadn't painted her bikini top on, but it's the same pink as yours.

I have a few new and old ones as well my vote ...older but not VINTAGE old .
Regardless its worth displaying.
I find that the spring in the new ones is too stiff and the wahine just jerks back and forth where as the older ones with more weight to them and a softer spring sway ....never had one till I was in LA driving behind a 58 ford with an oldie in the back window ...then I had to have one ! lol

I was leaning towards newer til I took a good look at my Dashboard Nodder. The skirt on mine is definitely similar & is different from my others without the magnet. Maybe they made the dashboard skirts out of a different material, because they would be in direct sunlight. Mine has the "Exclusive K.N. Japan" oval sticker intact & what looks like the same magnet. Mine is chalkware & she has the chips to prove it. I really think you may have scored a pristine, vintage Dashboard Hula Nodder, but just to be sure, send her to me. I'll put her on the dash of my '59 Impala & drive her around for the summer. just to make sure she's the real deal. :lol:

I don't care if it's a not topless japanese oval sporting magnet hot rodded not old skirt not tiki not nodder non swaying hula girl - I still think it's cool. But I'd be cautious about posting it over on Hula Girl Swayer.com. :wink:

Saw tiki nodders at the San Juan Bautista craft fair last weekend...wish I had the spare change to bring 'em home. My husband took some pics...will post when I get them off his phone.

Here are the tiki nodders we saw last weekend. The guy was selling them for $150 each. He said they are from the Philippines. They both had giant spring necks, giving them bobble heads. They were about 4 feet tall.

I thought this thread was about Hula nodders?

Anywho those tiki bobble heads look pretty tacky-esp with the white paint accents imo. Although I am surprised no artist on here has created their own version - sans the zombie-esque eyes :wink:

OK, back to Hula nodders . .

Found this one last week for $5. Looks old, no magnet present but the bottom is kinda tore up. Old or newer, me likes it.

There were several materials used for the skirts countritiki.There was soft almost
horse hair like material used and then there was a stiffer almost felt like it had
a little plastic in type material that was used.Yours has the latter of the two .
The softer material tends to shed after awhile from age and they thin out.I will
try and post my hula nodders very soon.I have some of the more rare ones in really
good condition and different heights as well.I think I have about fourteen of them.
