caromukkina singing "chega de suadade" This one rocks. She sounds a lot like the singer for the squirel nut zippers. She is totally getting into it and handling the portugese lyrics expertly! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgPBJF7ZGAA&feature=related [ Edited by: lucas vigor 2009-05-09 14:46 ] |

I feel the same way, and by such young people! And with such conviction. All these young musicians understand the irony, poignancy and inherent melancholy sentiment that is Bossa Nova. |

Let's hope nobody from the Cars tries to do Bossa Nova music or Lucas will get his panties in a bunch. |

No, I did not. Though, a couple of the asian ones are top notch in every respect. Especially Sitti navarro. But to answer tikismug's statement, the crucial difference is that Bossa Nova stopped being cool by 1967. So, to find young kids playing this type of music, stretched few and far between across the nation is intriguing to me. Suffice it to say you don't see this type of stuff easiily, while with exotica music there seems to be some new band each week. Including the new Elliot Easton group. Ironically, I actually have always admired this guy's guitar skills. Much like Pat Benetar's Neil Gerardo, he is one of the unsung guitar heroes of pop-rock. Elliot Easton is a truly gifted guitarist. But this Bossa Nova stuff is a different beast altogether. Portugese is a notoriously jaw-cracking language to learn. The guitar chords in most of it are advanced, to say the least. It takes a special sense of style to get it right, and the fact that these young people are doing so makes it even more cool, in my opinion. Bossa Nova has a level of sophistication that alludes most other styles, save pop jazz....I truly like it. Oh, and I don't wear panties. I already established that I wear diapers, (just like that crazy astronaut chick who was stalking the ex boyfriend.) [ Edited by: lucas vigor 2009-05-09 18:47 ] |

...and if we are gonna be really picky, I wouldn't call Bossa Nova, tiki music. I'd call it Beyond Tiki. |

You can't read? "Exotica, Lounge, Cocktail, Hawaiian, Vocals & Standards, Bump & Grind, Space-Age, Surf, Rockabilly, Swing and Tiki band discussion." Bossa Nova fits under the category of both vocals and standards and lounge. Hey your little vendetta against me is really getting boring. |

I really was not trying to sabotage or hi-jack this creep's thread, you know? It was just a intitial reaction that I should not have posted. I saw a thread for yet another Exotica band, this one including famous names, and I posted what I was thinking without realizing I was going to make someone cry. My motivation was simple: I love the local Exotica bands on this forum. I give them my full support. I give them my support first, because I know how hard they work, and I would like to see them get more recognition. It really was not meant to be a slam on Elliot Easton, and I apologize if that's how it came off. But maybe the Las Vegas sun is baking this guy's head, and making him get all hinkey on me...whatever... Basil, I will take your advice and not let the bastards grind me down! |

I don't know, Jeff. It sounded like they were describing a cross between Tikiyaki orchestra and Pink Martini. And that ground has already been covered and done to perfection by those two bands. |

I'd rather be a creep that a douche bag like you. I was trying to spread the word about a cool, cheap show on the Sunset Strip that I'm sure most TCers would dig. You steared the thread to your complaints about the whole world keeping the small intimate bands down. You then deleted all your posts because you knew your were wrong. I was just showing your what a schmuck you were being by giving you a taste of your own medicine. |

And don't forget the famous...Elvis Has Left The Building...LOL And one of my personal favorites...MD Baby!!! I also think it is great that so many young musicians are into this style of music. |

There are many ways to say it. Italian Americans sometimes just say "Fangul". As long as you understand me, that's all that matters. Care to criticize this Italian as well? |
