The Tikis Restaurant Espresso Machine

Does anyone have a link to or a picture of the espresso machine from a restaurant called "The Tikis Restaurant"? Where was it? When did it go out of business?

SCD, I think your are talking about the Tikiccino machine pictured in BOT p.112. The Tikis was a now defunct tiki themed amusement park owned by Danny Balz. (Thank you Sven)

What sparked this interest? I would love to get ahold of that thing. It is probably the only one in existence.

Sven seems to be the only person that has ever talked to Balz. I wonder if that guy knows where the Ticcino machine is. It was probably sold off at a government auction when he ran out of money.

For a while his ex wife was offering the Tikiccino machine for 500.- bucks, problem was it was all corroded inside and not repairable. Later I discovered it at a nursery on Golden West Blvd, the one with the oilrigs (Tiki News #15 "Oilrigs and Palmtrees"). They must have been investors in the Tikis and reclaimed what they could.

It was toppled and broken by Danny when he was being evicted from the site. Nothing is known about it's remnants.

Tikicino update:

The saga of the tikicino machine continues...

The owner of American Landscape Supply (which had the machine for years, and would not sell it) sold his property and most of his glorious clutter. He kept a few (unspecified) favorite items for himself.

So -- the owner of American Landscape Supply MAY still have the tikicino,... OR it may have been part of the "Going Out Of Business" sale.

Unfortunately, I didn't hear about the sale until it was all over. :-(

Not that I had space to store/display that monster anyway... :-(

The upshot is... the machine was lost and found and then lost and then found... and now it's lost again.

I was there about 1-1/2 months ago when they were doing their 'liquidation'. The machine was in REALLY bad shape....and yes, it WAS still there.

The machine was worthless and the 2 tikis on both sides of the machine had the metal (brass?) literally coming off. Surprisingly, I found that under the brass(?) was wood. I don't know how you can actually dip a wood carving in a molten metal and have it coat the wood, but it thats what it looked like they did. I approached the landscape owner and asked what the price was....."800 bucks" the guy said. WHAT?!? So, for the next 3 weeks in a row, I keep asking to see if they would discount it at all...."NOPE" he said. SH*T! No way was that worth 800 bucks! I offer $100 for both heads (now literally falling apart) as well as the "The Tikis" brass plaque and I would dismantle it myself. "NOPE" is the answer I get again. I say, ok, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600...."NOPE". Ok, now this guy just doesn't want to sell it and at this point we just are having real bad chemistry and we don't seem to like each other.

Now don't get me wrong. I wouldn't pay over $100 for the two heads and the brass plaque. I went higher in price just to see what he'd say and to see if he is saying "NOPE" out of spite...and that's what he was doing.

For $30 I could just have The Tikis brass plaque duplicated and tell a fish story of how I obtained it.

So, whoever has it, good luck. I'd rather invest in another, better preserved tiki-related item.
