We've taken this project to da max to bring you the fullest, most completely exotic tiki experience we can. As you know it is a star-studded cast of musicians. Hailing from Honolulu, and at the core of the group, are: drummer Abe Lagrimas Jr., bassist Randy Wong, and the legendary percussionist/bird caller Lopaka Colon. The band is filled out with the sparkling fingers of Helen Liu (violin), Yamaha Young Artist Finalist Jim Benoit (vibraphone), GRAMMY-nominated jazz/Latin jazz musicians Tim Mayer (saxophone/flute; of La Clave Secreta) and Zaccai Curtis (piano; of Cindy Blackman, Sean Jones, Christian Scott). Plus we bring special guests: Greg Pare (narrator) and Mike Dease (trombone; of the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star and Roy Hargrove big bands!) The liner notes include articles by Jeff Tamarkin (former editor, JazzTimes and Global Rhythm magazines) and Randy Wong... drink recipes by Jeff "Beachbum" Berry", Brother Cleve, and John Gertsen... a 50s-style pupu recipe by Sandra Wu (former editor, Cooks Illustrated magazine) and slammin' photography and illustration by Jason Goodman and Sam Gambino, respectively. This is an album not to be missed!! No samples, electronic instruments, or overdubs were used in the making of this CD... everything is performed live, all complete takes.
