I found quite an interesting article in an April 25, 1960 issue of Billboard magazine. It states that High Fidelity Recordings has inked a 3 way promo deal with Budweiser involving Arthur Lyman. This only took place in a few states in the west. Budweiser had agreed to program Lyman's Taboo Vol. II on all radio shows where they buy time. The label provided Taboo album covers for the beer distributors, and the brewery's distributors set up Taboo displays in supermarkets using the album covers. Quite an odd combination, but I would love to find a photo of one of the displays! |

Wow! They must have had some slogans! But which!? Somehow "Bud" just doesn't jive with "Taboo" in my mind.... |

Here's a nice June 1959 ad I just found for Taboo  Lyman had no where near the number of promo ads that Martin Denny had. |

The sales figures and Billboard rating explain why this is the most common Exotica album I find at garage sales. Martin Denny's "Quiet Village" seems to be the next most common. |
