Aloha! Short notice, because I've been up to my ears in all kinds of stuff. Despite the short notice, I'm hoping I might be able to meet up with some fine folks in Hawaii! Saturday night, Feb. 6, we'll be at La Mariana on Oahu. For a few days after that, we'll be on the Big Island, and then we'll be on Maui for a few more days. We wrap up with Valentine's Day back on Oahu, and then we're heading home. I see that Bewitched by Tiki is going to be on the Big Island, maybe we can get some sort of meet-up going there. Is there an obvious best choice for a meetup location in the Kailua area on the Big Island? Is there an obvious best choice for a meetup in Lahaina on Maui? |

Sweetpea, I sent you a PM about the hotel in Maui. Fun things to do: Haleakala bike company takes you to the top of Haleakala (get up really early) to see the green flash when the sun rises. Then you bike down the volcano. Don't use Maui Downhill, they make you ride single file and stay with the pack. Haleakala Bike company gives you a bike and says "have fun, have the bikes back by 4pm" and you are on your way. Trilogy Catamaran trips takes you from Lahaina to Lanai, you snorkle or explore the island, have an incredible BBQ picnic before heading back. Awesome! Drive to Hana, it's amazing and don't be afraid to drive the whole way around instead of turning back. We had a rental car and had no problem. The landscape changes so much, it's fun to stop at the different beaches. One has pebbles that sound like popcorn popping when the waves recede, it's really cool. (Stop in one of the kiosks to pick up the cassette for your car, it's kind of corny but talks about all the mile markers and places to stop). Go up North to Mama's Fishouse restaurant. Um, the mai tais were $14 each at the bar and this was a few years back so be warned, it's really pricy. But you have to check it out, it's great! And the grounds are beautiful. The Kula Lodge is great too! I love Maui, it's really magical. |
