Birdgirl and I are closing the Rhum Rhum Room and leaving NYC to come out to sunny Las Vegas for a few days. We have not been in about 3 years and want to make sure we hit all the stuff that we have not done and will be new to us - especially the tiki stuff and any decent cocktail bars. Nicole doesn't gamble and I will play a little craps, but we're mostly there to check out the sites, eat, drink and drink. Staying at the Golden Nugget. Any suggestions welcome! List of stuff I want to do so far: Frankies |

Hey, actually I'll be in town that weekend as well, also staying at the Golden Nugget. Yes, DCR is still open. East Fremont has a lot of fun places, Beauty Bar and the Griffin tend to cater to the (indy) club kids. A new place in that area is "Don't Tell Mama", which is a fun piano bar. If you're really adventurous, check out Atomic Liquors (further down Fremont beyond the DMZ). If you go to the Neon Boneyard, be sure to bring an umbrella because even in May, that desert sun can get pretty strong. Check out my Vegas thread under General Tiki, I have lots of suggestions there. http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=30590&forum=1&74 Let me know if you'd be interested in meeting for a cocktail or a Craps roll (I've been on a streak lately). |

Wow - thanks for the link John-O. I printed that whole thread and will read it later. Thanks for the tip in the Boneyard. We have been there before, so it's lower on the list than some of the other things we have not done yet. I am generally not the one in charge of scheduling activities...but I can make suggestions LOL. Would be great to meet up for a drink and maybe throw some dice. Let's stay in touch as the weekend gets closer. |

Frankie's is awesome - a true tiki mecca! Loved the darkness (eyes do adjust after a while!), decor, music, videos, friendly bar staff, quality mugs and the mai tais! Tiki Lee's is pretty close by and well worth a look. Just beware the front desk ladies who will come looking for you if you're still browsing close to closing time! Warning - don't be suckered in by tiki slots - they were the worst ones I played! Pretty much the whole of the California casino is Hawaiian themed - good low-roller gambling to be had there! |

Definitely looking forward to Frankies as one of the highlights. I think I am pretty close to there staying at the Nugget (closer than from the strip anyway). I expect more than one visit. Kinda sorry I missed the whole very brief TV era, if only to see the train-wreck for myself and possibly buy some TVLV branded gear. Thanks for the tip on the tiki slots. I'm not much of a slots player, pretty much only craps for the little gambling that I do - I find it to be the most fun game now that I figured it out LOL. |

Frankie's is definitely worth one or several visits. I enjoyed the Atomic Testing Museum. Not really tiki, but they did blast the hell out of some south pacific islands back in the day, and it's a good way to spend a couple hours. |

I would argue there is a mid-century Tiki connection.... http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=30590&forum=1&vpost=520013 |

Thanks Cephalo! Totally forgot about the Atomic Testing Museum - I have never been and just added to the growing list. Gee, I haven't even gotten there yet and I am already out of time! |

I just PM'd you my cell. I arrive this Sat afternoon (May 8th) and will be staying through Monday. How about some craps this Sat night at the El Cortez ? I'm sure your East Coast Tiki "mana" will net us a nice bankroll. Also don't forget to add the Liberace Museum to your To-Do list !! :) |

Joe, Here's a few more: Casa Fuente in the Forum Shoppes at Ceasar's has some great rum based cocktails. There is also a Rum bar next door to Ceasar's. There is the city park where they have the last Aku Aku moai out in the lagoon. The tikipugs went with us to the cool old school steak place up top at Binnion's. |
