Record Store Days

As a lifelong habitue of record shops, I thoroughly recommend this documentation of a cultural phenomenon that seems to be going the same route as first-wave Tiki. Let's support our record shops and keep an institution alive before recorded music falls into the exclusive ownership of the phone companies. This is one of the most well-written, enjoyable new books I've purchased in a few years. Peter Buck writes the intro, and he's the real deal.

Local OC record store Bionic records( the singer in the Offspring wore their t-shirt, in thier keep em separated video).
Used to be a small chain of 3 stores. but with the dwindling music buying public in the late 90s early 2000s
2 of them closed.
The last one (Cypress headquarters) has actually been doing really good business lately.
But most of it has been in used vinyl.

I was sad to see a few of my favorite mom and pop stores close.
and Lou's records in Encinitas Ca. seems to be struggling to keep afloat.

But I will always be a fan of going to an actual record store, and flipping thru the stock.
