International Surfing Day Events in California They do it in Doheny, Dana, Bolinas to Stinson, Huntington to Seal, Long Beach, Monterey, Newport Beach, San Diego, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo and all points in between. What is that they do? They surf, to be sure. And on one special day this year (June 20) surfers will unite to clean up the beaches of California. You don't have to surf to be involved, according to event planners. Many activities include beach clean-ups, and even a free yoga class in Monterey. In San Luis Bay (Avila Beach), people are encouraged to ride their bikes to a festival event. The Surfrider group in South Bay (Los Angeles), will donate a portion of proceeds from a special surf art event to the Surfrider Foundation. No surf in Long Beach today, oh wait there hasnt been since 1949 when the breakwater wall was built. Once known as the Waikiki of Southern California it now is a polluted, waveless beach. Attended and volunteered at a Surfrider film fest yesterday with home made videos reflecting public service announcement advocating the sinking of the breakwater wall. Its a shame that on this International Surf Day i cant surf in my hometown due to a 2 mile wall that blocks all waves and clean water circulation. Even if you don't live here this should make you pissed. SINK THE BREAKWATER AND RESTORE THE SHORE. Thank you for letting me vent, now go get wet! |
