My neighborhood has submitted our application to become an official mid-century modern Historic District. Hopefully within the next 60 days we will get the final approval. Everything looks real promising.

There was another old thread on the hood I had here: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=23081&forum=1

I believe we would be Texas' first post war district. The local NPR station just did a story on it too

Good preservation news!

Very cool. I love that architecture and if I was there I'd be fighting the good fight with you. Keep up the great work!!!!

Great news. Now if we could only get Dallas neighborhoods to follow!

That's fantastic news! We need more of this! I photographed a 50's Ranch House Historic District for a nomination last spring in Overland Park, Kansas. People are slow to recognize this era as "historic" but when they GET it, things can start to happen fast! Good Luck!

There is going to be an estate sale in the hood 20th - 22nd. Here is the link to the sale:

What makes this one special, and heartbreaking, is the house is a one-owner mod that is one of the coolest in the neighborhood. It has been bought by a neighbor who has little or no appreciation for the original style. It has the pink appliances without a scratch on them, the poured terrazzo is great, the original baths, the hardware, light fixtures, it is all a time warp of high mod style. The house has been photographed often and we commonly call it the "sputnik" house due to the custom made front light. There is a picture of the front of the house on this National Trust blog:

I don't know what the new buyer's intentions are for the property, but there has already been discussions of a need to remodel the kitchen. I don't know if they plan on holding it as a rental or "updating" it and flipping it. It is worth going just to see the house.
