Here's a decent rum guide that gives some love to Smith & Cross and El Dorado: http://www.esquire.com/features/drinking/best-new-caribbean-rums-0910?src=rss I'm a little bugged by the daiquiri test though. Surely there's a better cocktail to test out rums. What are your favorite "litmus test" cocktails? |

The daiquiri is a classic for a reason. Clean, simple, features the rum. A traditional grog (rum, water, lime, sugar) is also an option. |

A Mai Tai is more a test for two rums. |

+1 There are also more variables involved (curacao, orgeat). Figuring that white rums are generally not considered sipping rums, what else is better than sugar and limes? Mmmmmm! |

It is not THAT daiquiri, it is the classic daiquiri which is rum, lime and sugar. |
