Description:
The Chief's Hut restaurant was located adjacent to the pool at the Reef Hotel on Waikiki Beach. I have several postcards showing the thatched hut building.

This card is a night shot depicting the water show that was put on for the restaurant guests.

I have seen a menu

and swizzle that feature a cool logo with a Tiki torch and war club.

Now the cool thing is that the Chief's Hut is still in operation at the Outrigger Reef hotel, albeit in a vastly different form. Some nice water features have been added.

And, there is this amazing A-Frame that has been constructed at the entrance to the Outrigger Reef Hotel.

Just got this matchbook from the old Chief's Hut with some nice graphics.

It looks like Chief's Hut was closed in 2006 and replaced by a new poolside restaurant called Kani Ka Pila Grille.

I went to the closing auction of the Chief's Hut with Gecko and Freddie (House of Ku.) There was VERY little there. Some of the bamboo and fixings went to a short lived coffee place across from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The Outrigger Reef had a very nice display of masks and artifacts on loan from the Bishop Museum for a few months following construction/renovation of the Chief's Hut in 2006. As spaces started to lease, the displays disappeared.
