Squid Row goes Tiki!

O

A daily comic strip published in several newspapers in the Monterey Bay area has a new story line involving the protagonist and her friend getting a gig decorating a new tiki restaurant/bar. I've talked with the writer of the strip, who has recently discovered Tiki Culture, and she's hinted that tiki is going to be in a longer story arch than she had originally planned since she's having so much fun. It's a popular strip that utilizes lots of Monterey locations, including John Steinbeck's Cannery Row, hence the name Squid Row.

Friday night I got invited to a loft party that showcased what a cartoonest can start turning into when she discovers tiki : http://squidrowcomics.com/?p=3046

It is I, Squid Row Mama... thanking my pal, Okolehao, for plugging my comic strip! It's been fun incorporating my new found interest (okay, it's an obsession) with all things tiki. Things tend to spill out from my "real" life into my "imaginary life"...

Today's toon sorta feels real... in that the eyeballs of Maka Koa are a reflection of my obsessiveness with tiki. Enjoy.

Bridgett, looks like you're having a good time - I say run with it!
