Forbidden Island, Sonic Swell and KFJC Radio present the Third Annual Surfin' Smorgasboard on Sunday August 5th.

Advance ticket sales here:

This yearly showcase of international surf bands mixed up with tasty Bar-B-Que always satisfies the senses (and packs the club.) Enjoy an ice cold rum cocktail and listen to bands that you will likely never have the chance to see live again.

Headlining the Smorgasboard is EL RAY, from Copenhagen, Denmark, making their USA premier at the Forbidden Island. The band is known for causing (real) crowd surfing at it's gigs. They're latest album is called "Highwave to Hell" and they are one of the standout bands on the recent "Brave New Surf" compilation. Check out their moody new video "Kodachrome Wipeout" at http://vimeo.com/42921707

LOS VENTURAS from Belgium, shocked the audience at the 2012 Surfer Joe Festival in Italy with their updated, soulful sound. Dressed like 70's swingers and rockin' the wah-wah on many songs, the grooves inspiring the crowd to sway like lithium was in the air. Los Venturas new album, "Kaleydoskop" will be available for this, their second, US tour. Check out their live version of Tommy James' "Dizzy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGo4dsGwayg

FRANKIE & THE POOL BOYS just returned from a 3 week tour of Italy, including headlining the closing night of the Surfer Joe Festival in Livorno, Italy. The band members have played with Pollo Del Mar, The Tomorrowmen, Meshugga Beach Party and the Wadadli Riders (Antigua). Regulars (on stage and at the bar) of the Forbidden Island, check out the "Skinny Dippin'" video shot there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtBeAq3-lsc

just realized that you can hear almost everything by El Ray here:
http://elray.dk/press/music.html

Lots of Spy type songs,
I know that Otto wanted them for Tiki Oasis,
but they couldn't stay for 2 weeks plus
;-(

But at least Nor. Cal. and So. Cal. can see them before Oasis.
at F.I.
and the SG101 con.

This Sunday,
be sure to get yer tix online.

Jeff(btd)

well this event was a huge success!!
but I don't know who many tiki people were there.
maybe 10 to 15 at the most I was told.
was bummed not to see more of the old school crowd.

Jeff(btd)

a good review towards the bottom of page 1, here:
http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/19006/?page=1

and then pics on page 2 of that thread.

Thanks to Ferenc of Frankie and the Pool Boys for arranging it,
and to Mike for letting it happen there.

Good times indeed.
