Is March still looking good for the soft opening? Early, mid, late march?

bump :)

I have been needing a reason to go to Princeville, when I make my glorious return to Kauai next year, and now I have one.

Tiki Iniki, North Shore of Kauai, HI
A tropical cocktail bar in Hawaii is about as exotic as ice in Iceland, but this one sets itself apart with the help of a little star power (one of the owners is rock legend Todd Rundgren). They've enlisted other big names in the bar world like mixologist Julie Reiner and third-generation tiki bar designer, Bamboo Ben. Reiner, a Hawaiian native (but New York-based owner of Brooklyn's Clover Club and Manhattan's Lani Kai), is designing the cocktail program with modern interpretations of classic tropical drinks based on fresh-picked island fruits.

Article about Tiki Iniki in Honolulu Magazine.

http://www.honolulumagazine.com/Honolulu-Magazine/Biting-Commentary/February-2013/Tiki-Iniki-a-new-Kauai-bar-with-Julie-Reiner-Hawaii-Cocktail-Week-wrap-up/

News flash: Tiki Iniki is coming to Kauai in April. Hopefully the only devastation it wreaks is just a bit on our livers. There's some serious star power involved: Julie Reiner, who grew up on Oahu and opened New York hot spots Clover Club and now-closed Lani Kai, is developing the menu for Tiki Iniki in Princeville. The concept is a midcentury-style tiki bar, serving both classic Donn Beach and Trader Vic tiki drinks and modern interpretations. (Another star involved? Rock legend Todd Rundgren is one of the owners in the project.)

While we wait for Tiki Iniki's opening, we leave you with some of the highlights of the inaugural Hawaii Cocktail Week, which wrapped on Sunday. Reiner was one of the event's many guest bartenders, and, after her Modern Tiki session with Brian Miller (formerly of Death & Co, an East Village cocktail mecca), we celebrated Donn Beach's 106th birthday by taking a trip to Beach's grave at Punchbowl Cemetery (oh how appropriately named for Beach!). We shared a Zombie in his honor................

Can is on island! Go time. pics soon!

GoGo Ben!

This Tapa/Kapa will be used at Tiki Iniki.

The venerable Reverend Bamboo Ben holding a rousing sermon at the Church of Coco Palms... Hallelujah and amen my tiki brethren and sisteren!

***** Yes I know we keep changing the opening date but we're dealing with Kauai time.

Plus it's an island so missing equipment from containers doesn't help either!!!!******

I helped in a small way today.:D My wife is reupholstering the chairs for Iniki. These came from Don the Beachcombers originally, I believe. Ben refinished the rattan, my wife did the cushions, and today I helped her install them onto the chairs. They are good lookin!
Here's some of them:

Here's a few "Working Pics" for those of you that aren't on Facebook.

Svenster-

One of the carpenters said, "I have this book with lot's of tikis in it that I got at a yard sale in Hanalei."
Bring it on down. Ends up to be the BOT!!! He got it for like 5.00!!! So I'm working with these master carpenters
trying to "loosen up their skills a bit". Every time they want to do something all polished and perfect I point to the Book of Tiki
and say hey!!! Go back and look at some pages!!! This is Real Tiki not that fake Hawiian Tiki stuff!!!
Aloha BB

Very cool, Ben. Having visuals certainly saves a lot of x-plaining. And arguing. "If it's in a book, it must be good!" :)

What is a Todd Tiki?

Curious because I recently got a tiki that looks just like those...

Is there a place where I can get more?

Looking forward to more pics and videos of your progress!

These were on stage on a past Todd Rundgren Tour. They've lived with Todd and Michele ever since. Not sure about the origin. I'll ask soon.

There are a few bar stools left at Tiki Iniki avail for purchase... You get your name carved into it and some other stuff too. If interested contact Michele Rundgren @ yahoo dot com

If you ever wanted to invest in a (real) Tiki Bar now is your chance!!!
( makes for a great write off too

That's pretty a fun video, Ben has gone completely native now I fear
we may have lost him to the Islands.
