CALL FOR TRADITIONAL ARTISTS AND VENDORS

We are currently accepting applications for traditional artists, vendors, and entertainers wishing to participate in our 3rd Annual Pasifika Living Arts Showcase, May 18-19, 2013. This event will feature performances, demonstrations and hands-on workshops by traditional artists and cultural specialists representing the Pacific Islands’ diverse cultures.

This event hopes to help inspire, promote and educate all visitors to respect and honor the diverse heritage of the Pacific Islands. For more information contact Hugo Albarran at [email protected] or call (562) 216-4170. All applications are due by April 4, 2013.

The Long Beach Gay Pride Festival/Parade is the same weekend so traffic will be a be-atch in the morning, especially on Sunday which is when the parade is held and Ocean Boulevard and several side streets are shut down.

​3rd Annual Pasifika Living Arts Showcase

Pasifika Living Arts Showcase will feature performances, hands-on workshops and demonstrations by traditional artists and cultural specialists representing the Pacific Islands’ diverse cultures. Attendees will also have the opportunity to also talk to the artists, ask questions about materials, history and language. Demonstrations include: ‘Ava Ceremony, Tattoo Demonstration, Bilum Making, Poi Making, Lei Making, Coconut Husking and Grating, Ukulele Music, Mele Hula, Haka Dance, Waiata-a-Ringa, and Poi Twirling. This project has been made possible by the Robert Gumbiner Foundation and a grant from the Alliance for California Traditional Arts, in partnership with the Walter and Elise Haas Fund, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the James Irvine Foundation, and the Surdna Foundation.
