hi i was wondering if any one had trouble finding orgeat, or knew of a substitute to use in it's place. i have asked at the grociery store, and the liquor store and no one has heard of it. i have a few older drink reciepts and they call for orgeat, i know it is almond surup ( sugar). they are the scorpion, the tiki bowl, the fog cutter, and surfing bastered. does any of your drink recpeites have orgeat and where do you find it?

thanks

I've found the Torani brand Orgeat syrup at Cost Plus World Market. I haven't been able to judge if this is any better than other brands of orgeat syrup.

Octane, check out this thread for info on Orgeat and Simple Syrup:

I've seen recipes/bartending guides substitute Amaretto for Orgeat. I don't recommend it though. I suppose you could concoct a simple syrup/almond extract mix that could resemble Orgeat.

Much easier to just order it from Trader Vic's (no relation  ) though.

I use Almond coffee syrup from DaVinci (www.davincigourmet.com), Monin (moninathome.com) or Nature's Flavors (www.naturesflavors.com) and they make a great substitute! Orgeat is basically just almond syrup anyway, and these are not amaretto - they have a real almond flavor.

Nature's Flavors is also very good for getting things like passion fruit syrup, mango syrup, etc. that, admitedly, are not fruit-based in reality, but taste great and last forever!
