Stopped by the Grand Opening of Fathom Bistro last week. Very small place; seats about 20 inside plus a few tables outside. It's not Tiki, but the nautical decor is very well done. The food menu is small, but the food was very good and, as expected, there's an impressive beer selection (15 taps, but good variety.) Right down the road from Bali Hai, it's located on the Shelter Island pier, so you're actually right on top of the water with spectacular views. If you want to fish, the bait & tackle shop is open at the other end of the building. Not much info on the website yet, but the address and current hours (might be worth calling to double check) are there: |

Thanks! I will have to check that place out soon. Sounds like a cool idea, and right on the water. |

There are quite a few pictures of Fathom Bistro Bait & Tackle on yelp.com. Gotta love that name and concept! http://www.yelp.com/biz/fathom-bistro-bait-and-tackle-san-diego |

Stopped by this place yesterday. It is pretty cool, Disney records on the wall. Lots of nautical trinkets all over. A pirate will ID you on the way in. Nice view inside or out. Very small, as to be expected. Food was ok, sausages are their main attraction. They make them all on site. You can also get them spiked. I got both of mine spiked, but I still don't know what that means. I assume injecting some beer into it? My friend Will was cooking, which was great cause I haven't seen him in awhile. No fish... They said that there was too much fish everywhere on Shelter Island. My wife was not happy about that, since the only meat she eats is seafood. They did have a gardenburger and a salad for vegetarians. It was busy and they did have lots of beers, many that I haven't tried before. Half of them were "not cold" due to them changing the kegs, so the selection was a choice of 7 or so beers. Cool place to check out. If you are deciding between Bali Hai and the Fathom Bistro, choose Bali Hai. |
