I'm taking my mom to Hawaii in a week while she is still well enough to travel. We've been twice and she really likes Waikiki for some reason. Thanks to Tiki Road Trip and other books, we hit most of the "must do" places, so we're looking for something new. She is in a wheelchair and needs rest every few hours, but still game to give it a try. She really likes BBQ beef ribs. Any suggestions? Also, Los Angeles has some great resources for Tiki art (Oceanic Arts, Tiki Marketplace at Dons...) but are there any suggestions for good priced PNG or less touristy art in Oahu? Any places to eat accompanied by live Arthur Lyman/Martin Denny type music? Driving all over the island so not restricted to Honolulu.

Here is another thread about Oahu.

I don't know about good art, but there is a cool tiki carver - Maile Niue in Hakipu'u. I will see if I can think of any other suggestions.

I went to Oahu this year and stayed with Vantiki and his wife and hung out with House of Ku (Freddie) as well.

They may not see this post but you could PM them both through here and ask for some suggestions. Vantiki lives in Kailua and am I not sure what area of Oahu Freddie is in.

I don't eat beef but I had some pretty decent thai food and great breakfasts in Kailua.

Shoot them some PMs and see if they can suggest any places.

I am taking my mom to Oahu in March for her first time--I cannot wait to go back!I hope you guys have a great trip!

Not Martin Denny, but the Bros. Kazimero embody the Aloha spirit and perform at Chai's during dinner at the Aloha Tower in Honolulu.
