Exciting news- This will be the biggest Texas Tiki Round-up yet!
The Intoxicators! will be coming all the way from Florida to play the Round-up this year!
Other fantastic entertainment:
The Disasternauts- All-star Astro-chimp Surf Band
Combo Mahalo- Austin's own genuine Hapa Haole Hawaiian band
DJ Tropicana Joe- the sounds of the islands
MC Dave Wolfe Of Midwest Monster
The exotic Eva Strangelove, New Zealand's (and now Austin's) Weapon of Mass Distraction
And the beautiful ladies of Island Rhythms Hula Co. will perform and give a hula lesson!

Texas tiki carver Amate will be back with some of his amazing tikis to purchase, and Crash will have her tiki art.

Tons of food. Free drinks in the tiki room and the A-frame out back. Tiki mini-golf, pool and hot tub.

This event is held at my house, aka The Enchanted Lagoon, in Southwest Austin. There will be a small suggested donation to help cover costs. RSVP's requested and Paypal info will follow.

I wanted to let the out-of-town folks know that a new hotel has opened up closer than any of the others. It is filling up fast, so if you want to stay here, don't delay and make a reservation.

The San Antonio Museum of Art has an Oceanic Art collection. Who knew? They have announced a tiki event on Sept. 12. It was described as such by a fellow tikiphile in the know: "A museum docent will lead a discussion on the Oceanic Art collection followed by cocktails on the patio overlooking the RiverWalk. The band will be King Pelican." So Texans and visiting tikiphiles can make an entire tiki weekend of it if you like.

Wow! I'm in... How can I help? I am up in Pflugerville.

K

Mahalo Freeland! I'm definitely in need of more volunteers. I'll think of something easy for everyone who volunteers and those with the bigger/more time-consuming jobs will be added to our guest list, so no donation requested.

Also wanted to let everyone know that CJ, who has attended the party before has let me know they have several rooms listed on air bnb that are somewhat close to the party.

Just sent you an email with my info...

K

More party and RSVP info!

Note, please RSVP via Paypal or email. The event address will be listed here and on the Texas Tiki email list a few days before the party (or message me). This is not a public party, but those who RSVP are welcome to invite a few friends who you trust and know will be respectful that this is our home. Just let me know how many are coming in your RSVP so I can plan accordingly. We organize this party ourselves simply for the love of Polynesian Pop. We ask only for a suggested donation of $20 per person to help us cover some of the costs. We couldn't do this without you! You can Paypal in advance or pay cash at the door. Paypal is preferred, esp. if you don't want to think about it that night (and will help me buy more booze). Just log into your Paypal account, select Send Money and enter this email: [email protected]. This isn't my regular email so please email me directly with any questions at [email protected].

When is the party?
September 13th 7pm-very late

Where is it?
The Enchanted Lagoon, Austin, Tx (address given later)

Who is invited?
Tiki Centralites, Texas Tikiphiles on email and Facebook, and friends of those

Are kids invited?
This is essentially an adult party. We have a large yard that is dark with multiple water features that are not fenced in any way. There is no lifeguard and our house is not childproofed. We have quite a bit of booze flowing, the music will get loud and burlesque will be happening in the later hours. That being said, if you cannot find a sitter for the keikis, we will not turn you away!

Is it free?
We're asking for a suggested donation of $20 per person to help cover some of the costs. We don't make a profit. So for what is essentially the price of two drinks downtown you get free food and drinks, golfing, swimming and entertainment.

So what's happening?
Fabulous bands, dj, hula and burlesque on the lanai. And food and tiki drinks, tiki mini-golf, swimming, lounging in the upstairs tiki room, dancing and hula hooping.

What to wear?
Wear your vintage aloha shirts and tiki dresses, or anything tropical. Bring your swimsuit if you'd like to dip in the lagoon. Ladies, comfortable shoes are suggested for the uneven terrain, and spikes aren't allowed on the golf greens.

What to bring?
As always, we encourage everyone to bring a food or drink item to share. That would be awesome, and is greatly appreciated, but not required. Bring your swimsuit and towel (seriously. Put it in the car. Everyone changes their mind after a few drinks and wants to jump in) and a hula hoop if you like (or buy one from Cedar!).

Where to stay?
Here are a few suggestions:

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/230976
And here's the other one:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/234194

Do you need any help?
Why, yes. Glad you asked. We could definitely use more volunteers. We could use some help the day before setting up, and the night of the party it will all be easy tasks that are less than an hour. Maybe as easy as making sure we still have ice and the torches stay lit. Please let me know if you're willing to lend a hand.

And please, please RSVP so that we can purchase food and drink appropriately.

Email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. Mahalo!

Listen in tomorrow 11:00a-12:00p on 91.7 FM in Austin when the Rancho del Rey show features all Hawaiian music! It streams on http://www.KOOP.org. Mahalo to Ted Smouse for keeping the Hawaiian torch burning in A-town!

Yes he does... Complete with bookmark ta-boot. Also has several other great mugs both new, and vintage alike. Also down the street is the Drink Well, and they may have a few of the mugs from Texas Tiki Week left too if you hadn't picked one up.

We just went to Rave on Vintage for the first time this weekend while looking to get Monica a dress for the roundup. GREAT store. Freeland...thanks for the tip on the Drink Well, I was super busy at work during Texas Tiki Week this year and was unable to pick up a mug, so I will check with them. :)

That IS a cool store.

In other party news, another cool place in Austin will be participating again this year- Cabo Bob's Burritos! Everyone loved them so much we just had to have them again! We'll have a few different types of tacos to choose from. It looks like they just opened another location right around the corner from my old postgrad digs near campus. You can check out their locations and menu here: http://cabobobs.com/

Yummmm

Also, Formikahini will be bringing some of her tiki treasures to sell at the party. Amate is bringing some carvings and there may be a few other vendors to be announced. So bring a little cash if you fancy a souvenir or two. There's a rumor the Disasternauts will have t-shirts too...

Thanks for the kind words about the shop guys! We have a variety of Tiki Farm mugs in stock right now and we'll be setting up a small table at Round Up with new and vintage mugs as well as other bar ware, clothing, accessories, and more. Plus we'll be raffling off a gift certificate for the store! Can't wait for the 13th and hope to meet everyone there!

I'm super excited about how the party is shaping up, with all the great entertainment. Lots of fun extras too with Amate, Formikahini and Rave On Vintage selling cool tiki stuff. We've got a fab vintage trailer coming and a few classic cars too. If you have a classic car you'd like to show off, feel free to park next to the garage or in the grass next to the driveway. Everyone else- please leave the driveway open from the sidewalk to the street so the bands can load easily. It is a long driveway to haul gear back and forth.

We'll also have a free raffle drawing for prizes of tiki art, paraphernalia and a gift certificate for Rave On Vintage. You can enter at the check-in table and we will draw names later in the evening. You must be present to win!

The party is on rain or shine. Right now the weather is predicted to cool a bit on Friday. So we will be comfortable outside. Yay! We'll have the hot tub on all night too.

Keep an eye out for TX Tiki emails if you are on our list. If you have any questions, message me or check the Texas Tikiphiles group on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/texastikiphiles/

Getting super excited for Saturday night. Can't wait to meet and have drinks with ya'll! Here are some of the items we'll be taking with us to sell. If you don't bring enough cash, don't fret, we can take cards. And don't forget we'll be raffling off a $25 gift certificate for the shop, Rave On Vintage.

https://www.facebook.com/RaveOnVintage
http://instagram.com/raveonvintage

The tiki bar won't be making an appearance, just sold out of the shop.

K

A few late additions to the party:

John Olvey will be bringing some of his art. As his website says, he is one of the few artists in the world creating surfboard sculpture. http://www.art-of-surf.com/index.php/galleries/sculpted-surfboard-gallery

Also the Tipsy Texan will be bringing some of his mugs from this year's USBG Texas Tiki Week. I heard a rumor of cocktail with purchase?... http://www.ooga-mooga.com/cgi-bin/all/mug.cgi?mode=view&mug_id=6890

A few last minute notes:

*Remember to bring your swimsuit and towel, $20 for the door if you haven't Paypal'd, and a little extra if you think you'll want to pick up some merchandise from the vendors. I think the Disasternauts will be bringing some t-shirts too. Save one for me! :) Oh and don't forget, high heels may be a challenge in our yard.

*Please park along the street and leave the driveway for the bands. Vintage cars can park alongside driveway in the grass. Also please try to be a little quiet on the street so the neighbors don't call the cops on us.

*Caroline and Rob will be in their trailer in the front yard for a bit, sharing cocktails so stop and say hi on your way in if you see them.

*Enter the backyard at the end of the driveway and check in at the desk. They will have a list of those who have Paypal'd by Friday. Try not to use Paypal after that so you will be on the list I print early Saturday. The folks at the desk can give you a quick lowdown on what is where and you will want to enter the raffle drawing there.

*Weathermen are predicting a cool front Friday, so the temp will be 70's-80's, cooling to 60's-70's. The rain should be ending by early Saturday, but the party is ON baby! regardless. We've got Plan B to cover that possibility with tents and such.

Looking forward to seeing everyone! Aloha til then!
