Palisades Amusement Park Tiki restoration

Pages: 1 7 replies

We received this fabulous Tiki statue that was once a part of the Jungleland ride at New Jersey's Palisades Amusement Park. It has been painted at least 6 times since it left Palisades in 1969. We plan to completely strip the statue and finish it to its original beauty. Unfortunately, we have not been able to locate any color photos of the statue at Palisades. We did find a postcard featuring the same ride that was at a Wildwood casino but it is too small to determine a color scheme. The statue is made of fiberglass. Does anyone have any tips on how we might be able to find an appropriate color scheme to paint it? Or does anyone have a good color photo of a Jungleland ride that shows this little guy. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Your Marquesan style Tiki may be out of the frame on the photo but based on all of the Tikis we can see, I would say you should make yours look like unpainted aged wood.

You can see quite a bit of Tiki in the close up

They are restoring Palisades Amusement Park?

No, we're not restoring the entire amusement park. Just one piece at a time. I run the Palisades Amusement Park Historical Society and have written a book and produced a documentary for PBS about the New Jersey fun center.

Which is why I suggest you add the word "Tiki" to the thread title
it is a bit misleading. :)
