I just got the latest Oct/Nov. issue of Reminisce magazine today and there is a short but fun article on tiki. Sven is interviewed. (I am on a first name basis with him even though we've never met, He's probably taking out a restraining order right now, come to think of it). There are some cool photos and a brief notes on the Mai Kai and Tiki Ti and Critiki. The article is not the be-all and end-all of tiki info but its nice to see nonetheless. I don't have the computer skills to scan it in but I can post some photos of the article later tonite. ![](https://tikicentral.com/uploads/538/5442b6fa.jpg[/img

Thanks for the photos, TG. I love the opening chapter spread, I wanted that Worlds Fair photo as the Tiki Pop cover, but could not figure out how to colorize it realistically. The Tiki Gardens cover was accepted by both, the museum and Taschen, so it won. I have not seen that waitress photo before, wonder where they got it from. Weird that they picked Harry Belafonte as the music example. I guess we did not get to touch on Martin Denny in the interview. Oh well, as mentioned here Their recommended Tiki supplier, Retroplanet.com, does not show the best taste in Tiki mugs, but it DOES offer the "Kiresten Tiki Pop Mug" :) I hope they sent me a sample issue, I am working in Germany for a while so I won't know til December. Seems like one can't get single issues, just subscriptions. [ Edited by: bigbrotiki 2014-10-19 03:27 ] |

I have never seen that photo either. The captions says it is in a hotel in Pennsylvania. The only one that I know of that fits this description is the Kona Kai in Philadelphia, but that is not the Kona Kai. The green booths makes one think it is from one of Stephen Crane's Kon Tiki or Ports o Call restaurants. A mystery location. Does the article say anything more? DC |

This is what the Taschen P.R. person had to say about "Reminiscence" magazine: "They're a part of Reader's Digest (for readers over 70) and have a circulation rate of 1.1 million. Nice circulation! AARP? What's that?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AARP Well, I am not retired yet, but it looks like not a bad deal. |
