Trader Vic's Own Punch (the sour one)

Pages: 1 3 replies

Trying to track down the recipe for Trader Vic's Own Punch. Not Planters or Tonga or just punch. This was a favorite when I spent a lot of time at the TV in Berlin, but have also had it in Emeryville and Munich.

Can anybody provide a recipe or a place to track it down.

This is too easy, so it's probably not the recipe you're looking for.....

Page 371 of the 1948 Trader Vic's Bartender Guide:

Trader Vic's Punch

1/2 orange
1/2 lemon
1 1/4 oz. dark Jamaican Rum
1 1/4 oz. Puerto Rican Rum
1 slice Pineapple
1 tsp. sugar

Squeeze orange and lemon and drop in mixer; add handful shaved ice, liquor, fruit and rest of ingredients; shake well and pour, unstrained, into a 14 oz stubby glass. Serve with straws.

I typed this as printed.....when I saw "drop in mixer" i pictured a top down mixer....then it says "shake well". So I'm guessing mixer means "mixing glass".

The recipe in the '72 Trader Vic's Bartender's Guide is slightly different for the Trader Vic Punch:

1/2 orange
1/2 lemon
1 dash orgeat
1 dash rock candy syrup
1 oz light Puerto Rican rum
1 oz dark Jamaican rum
Squeeze orange juice over 1/2 scoop shaved ice in a double old fashioned glass; drop shell in glass. Squeeze in lemon juice; drop in shell. Add remaining ingredients. Fill glass with shaved ice. Shake. Decorate with fresh mint and fruit stick.

Thanks much...I need to get my own TV guide off of ebay!
