Hello, I came over from England for my first Tiki Caliente. I'm coming back to LA later this week, fly home on Monday. I had such a blast at Caliente I want to go out on a high. Would really like to hang out with some other tiki fans in LA, go for drinks, or just meet up. Not sure where I should have posted this either so apologies if it's wrong. All advice / suggestions welcome!

Mahalo!

If you're in the Orange County area south of LA, on Saturday, Shag is doing a signing for his new Star Wars print release at Wonderground in Downtown Disney/Anaheim. I'm sure there will be some tiki fans at Trader Sam's sometime during the day and the evening afterward.
And if you're in the OC, you might as well head over to Don the Beachcomber in Huntington Beach (about 25 mins West).
Cheers and enjoy!

Thanks alot, that sounds fun. I'll see if anyone posts about being there. Great, appreciate it!

If you're down in south LA County or head down to Anaheim, definitely make a stop at Oceanic Arts in Whittier, where polypop legends Leroy Schmaltz and Robert van Oosting still work and their art and creations are for sale. Their warehouse is definitely a tiki mecca.

Regulars meet at Tiki Ti every Wednesday at 4 when they open. Get there before they open and graba seat at the bar. Nothing is posted about it, but it does happen every Wednesday.

Guess it is too late for that though, but Tiki Ti is not to be missed!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I love the Tiki Ti but feel a bit conspicuous on my own!

Nah, I go there solo plenty. There are always kind hearted tiki folks to chat with. You will find yourself talking to strangers for hours, I always do.

It's true, Tiki people are really usually very friendly

Since I'm new here I didn't know if this should go in a new thread or not, but I'm wanting some suggestions to plan my day trip to L.A. up from San Diego.

I'm headed up on Saturday, July 23rd to attend that day's Tiki Makeke.

Since it's open from 10AM to 3PM, and on Saturday's Oceanic Arts is open from 10AM to 1PM, I was thinking of going to OA first and then to TM for lunch.

After TM I figured on checking out the Picture Show Gallery (https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-picture-show-seal-beach) but I'm not sure of their hours yet.

Tiki Farm in San Clemente is closed on Saturdays.

With headed first to OA and then back 20 miles south to Don's, I don't think it makes sense to zigzag back north 35 miles again to hit Tiki Ti in the evening, even though I very much want to go.

So I'm thinking for this particular day, I need to keep to the south end of LA.

Possibilities:
Downey: Bob's Big Boy Broiler (http://www.downeyca.org/gov/cd/ed/projects/bobs_big_boy_broiler.asp), World's oldest McDonald's (http://www.downeyca.org/visitors/attractions/mcdonalds.asp)
Anaheim: Trader Sam's (http://www.disneytouristblog.com/trader-sams-disneyland-bar-review/)
Huntington Park: Norm's on Slauson (http://normsrestaurants.com/huntingtonpark.html) although I guess the one on La Cienega in LA is "the" location? plus it's at the edge of the "I don't want to zig zag across LA" idea

It'll be my brother and I, and since we're getting to town at 10, and have to drive back, we can't exactly drink our way across the county and get ripped.

I saw this thread here: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=29661&forum=1 but from the map it looks like most of the places are in LA proper?

edit1: ah hah! Definitely will check out the Royal Hawaiian apartments! http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=28178&forum=2

If you don't want to go to Tiki Ti (mistake), Trader Sams is really fun and definitely worth a visit. You can park for free at Downtown Disney for a couple hours and buy a bottled water at ESPN Zone and get your parking validated for a couple more hours. Have fun!

No, no, I definitely want to, just not sure about the realistic logistics of doing it all in one day. Like, does it make sense to head there after the makeke at Don's?

Or would it make more sense to come up on another day and do the "northern half" and hit Tiki Ti and Tiki No ... maybe not on a makeke day so we can skew towards later in the evening and maybe even drag along a DD so we can sample an extra cocktail or 3?

I would go to Tiki Ti after the marketplace, but yeah if you don't have a sober driver it is tough. The drinks are great so you'll want to have as many as you can.
