It marks the anniversary of the end of World War I; major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Lotsa folks get Memorial Day mixed up with Veterans Day. If I’m wearing my Marine Corps cover on Memorial day I always get plenny people thanking me and wishing me well on “my” day.
I try to convince em that I’m very much alive and that my day will be coming up in November just after the Marine Corps Birthday on November 10 -Semper Fi my Bruddahs!

Memorial Day -For the Fallen
Veterans Day-For all that served in the military including those guarding Heaven’s Gates.
fwiw, imho Memorial Day Ranks at the top.
