Mine are "Tammy" by Debbie Reynolds, and "The House at Pooh Corner" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

If "sappy" means romantic....."Waiting in Vain", Bob Marley

Pretty Vacant??

"Another State of Mind"

"wildfire" I swear i'm not gay!

S

Sappy, yet snappy.

A Tiki Cheers To You!

oh, wait, 'Fools Rush In'

That gets me every time.

HOLLOW HILLS by Bauhaus

"You Are So Beautiful" by Bob Seger? I like to substitute the words "You are" with "I am". :)

F

Hmmm...on the maudlin side of sappy, I submit "Morningside" by Neil Diamond. It is bottomlessly sad, who wants to think that anybody could have that kind of footnote on their life? Ouch.

C

Leader of the pack by the Shondells(?)
"My folks were always puttin' him down, (Down, down)
And Rod Stewart's tune Your in my heart.

Guilty pleasure? Bob Marley?

My guilty pleasure - always play it low so no one can hear me listening to it especially in the car - "Teach Me Tiger" by April Stevens from the Ultra Lounge album Cocktail Capers (or the leopard sampler) - it's so goofy but I dig it!

I don't get the guilty pleasure thing. If you like somethin', then do it. If it rocks your world, great. Bob Marley is very cool. "Waiting in Vain" is a love song. Although my wife hates Bob, I don't give a hoot. I will sing the song to someone else. (after a few beers)

I listen to country, rock, alternative, old Pink Floyd is in a class by themselves, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Robert Palmer, Flock of Seagulls, Herd of Cows, School of Fish, Iron Butterfly, Chambers Bros., Gary Oldman, Golden Earring, ZZ TOP, Reggae, old and new Hawaiian, Steel drums, Jimmy Buffett, Emerson Lake and Palmer/Brain Salad Surgery bud, Steely Dan old, you name it bud, I like it all, except rap it's hideous, No guilty pleasures. It's all (mostly) good.

Well if someone liked the song (for example) "Muskrat Love"? They should be guilty for having such pleasure.

Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters doingt, "Tonight You Belong To Me" from "The Jerk".

K

Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy". Corny, but I like it.

Okay, I have to admit mine is "Celebrate the Bullit" by The Selecter.

"Morning has Broken" - Cat Stevens, "the Ballad of the Yarmouth Castle" - Gordon Lightfoot (it's about a shipwreck...doncha know), "Songs fo Aging Children" - Joni Mitchell. O.K. my secrets out...I'm a closet folky.

I'm guilty of being a hick and I don't shiv a git. I'll wear my cowboy hat and my boots and git on up.
Here's a song I like, it's dirt and it's cool, so is Bucky.

We were born to mothers who smoked and drank
our cribs were covered in lead-based paint
no child proof lids no seat belts in cars
rode bikes with no helmets and still here we are, still here we are

We got daddy's belt when we misbehaved
had 3 TV channels we got up to change
no video games and no satellite
all we had were friends and they were outside, playin' outside

It was a different world
when we were boys and girls
not just a different time
it was a different world

school always started the same everyday
the pledge of allegiance then someone would pray
not every kid made the team when they tried (Martin)
we got disappointed and that was all right, we turned out all right (Unga Bunga)

No bottled water, we drank from a garden hose
and every Sunday, all the stores were closed

It was a different life
when we were boys and girls
not just a different time
it was a different world

I love "Silly Love Song" by Paul McCartney & Wings...

and maybe just as much:

"Give Me Back My Heart" by Dollar (produced by Trevor Horn.)...great song, gushingly emotional maybe to the point of silliness, but it works. Does anyone remember Dollar?

"Kill For Peace" by the Fugs :)

"Seasons in the Sun" Terry Jacks 1974

Pure melancholic sap.

*Goodbye to you, my trusted friend.
We've known each other since we're nine or ten.
Together we climbed hills or trees.
Learned of love and ABC's,
skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Pretty girls are everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the hills that we climbed
were just seasons out of time.
Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me,
I was the black sheep of the family.
You tried to teach me right from wrong.
Too much wine and too much song,
wonder how I got along.
Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Little children everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the wine and the song,
like the seasons, have all gone.
Goodbye, Michelle, my little one.
You gave me love and helped me find the sun.
And every time that I was down
you would always come around
and get my feet back on the ground.
Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to die
when all the bird are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
With the flowers ev'rywhere.
I wish that we could both be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the stars we could reach
were just starfish on the beach *

For even more drivel, the flipside of the single has song called "Put the Bone In", a love song about a recently deceased pet dog. Yikes!

I still have the 7" single in my collection.

"Healing hands of Time"-Willie Nelson

and "One Tin Soldier"

"peace on Earth...was all it said!"

waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

B

Brandy by Looking Glass - the Red Hot Chili Peppers did a great cover of it too!

"Uptown Girl" Billy Joel...does that one count?

Our House, Crosby Stills and Nash
Disney Girls, Beach Boys
My Room, Beach Boys
You've Got a Friend, James Taylor
Harmony, Elton John

Sheesh...wallowing in sap.

I always thought Elton was singing about hominy.
Hominy, gee I really love you and I wanna love you foeva
Neva leavin hominy

Then I will assume that you thought Creedence was saying the "Bathrooms on the right!" (Bad moon rising)

mmmmm, boiled corn, bathroom on the right. Where's Wierd Al?

"Celebration" - Kool and The Gang.
"Looking for the Perfect Beat" - Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force.

I can't help but smile, sing, and move when I hear either song.

YES!! Totally.
I have 29 count em 29 different versions of this thing on my hard drive.
And then there's Rod McKuen's version of the original Jacques Brel song, Jacks' version changing this verse -

"Adieu, Francoise, my trusted wife,
without you I'd have had a lonely life.
You cheated lots of times but then,
I forgave you in the end
though your lover was my friend.
Adieu, Francoise, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky.
Now that spring is in the air
With your lovers ev'rywhere;
just be careful, I'll be there.

Adieu, Emile. Adieu, Papa. Adieu, Francoise."

OUCH!

Try to find a cover of it by The Squirrels - it'll melt your brain. The Beach Boys also cover the thing...

This one's easy for me - they're both by the Shangri-Las:

Leader of the Pack
(I remember) Walking In The Sand

At age three or four I had a crush on Mary Weiss

** How could I forget to mention Downtown by Petula Clark? The first 45rpm record I owned!
