Long time lurker. Recent first-time poster. After 9 years I still haven't been able to top this Goodwill find in the sleepy coastal town of Tillamook, Oregon. When i caught a glimpse of it at the back of the shelf buried behind typical thrift store flotsam and jetsam, my brain said "cookie jar" because the letters "ki" were visible. But when i brought it out into the daylight, I simply said "holy sh!t". It was my first visit to this particular GW and my second visit months later produced an OMC moai (unlabeled - when I saw it I was hoping it was also from The Tikis, alas. I'm not complaining.)
My succeeding visits (maybe 10 more over the years) have yielded next to nothing. But that's ok. Of course, I then had to acquire all the other bar-specific OMC barrels. Lol |

Great collection! It's always fun to pull an amazing OG find from a particular thrift store, even better if the experience repeats. For each store where I have found something Tiki, I will check again on subsequent visits to see if more items have magically appeared on that shelf... And when I do, I often chuckle, remembering the story of "The magic pie bush": https://x.com/ChrisBramwell/status/950819881120825344?lang=en&mx=2 [ Edited by Holofernes on 2025-01-25 13:58:27 ] |

I never heard about the magic pie bush. That's hilarious. As a young teen I would offer play hide and seek with our dalmatian. One time I climbed on top of the fridge. It took forever for her to find me up there. But after that, when looking for me, she would always stop in the kitchen and look up to see if I was up there. |

I love reading these TC stories, especially during the long and seemingly inescapable dry spells. Thanks for the inspiration. |

As far as Thrift store specific (versus general finds from any sources), my favorite haul in the past year was 6 "Peanut mugs". They are classic PMP's with no restaurant branding (unfortunately), but flawless otherwise. Of course they are not worth much, nor too exotic... but the fact that all 6 were sitting there on a shelf at the very sleepy little local Missionary Thrift Shoppe for $2 each was fun. At the time I didn't have any peanut mugs either. When I brought them up to the counter the elderly clerk said "Hallelujah, these are finally leaving the shop". I laughed and asked her how long they had been there and she said "Oh, we put them out yesterday, but they are so ugly they scared us, so we were hoping they would sell fast. What are they, anyway?" Rather than try to explain at even a high level the whole Tiki mug/culture thing, I just said they were fun backyard BBQ drink mugs. She sniffed and said nothing more. |

This one was from a few years ago at a Salvation Army. And this one was probably my best find. I scored it at a Goodwill in Las Vegas for $ .49. It has since been traded away, but still lives in my mind. |

Ok, for the ignorant, please provide a little detail. Are those mugs in the first photo from Trader Vic's Honolulu? If so, amazing score. And is the other mug a Cobras Fang? It would be awesome to have the level of Tiki history here in the Portland area as you guys in California. Not many tiki bars here in the past so not a lot of old tiki mugs turn up here. Used to find TVs coconut mugs and Hot Buttered Rum glasses, and tons of Harveys mugs. But those have mostly dried up. |

The 6 pmp peanuts is cool. I happened upon 6 pmp bamboo mugs at Goodwill in Roseburg Oregon many years ago. Stopped in while driving back from Tiki Caliente in 2016. Quite pleased. Stopped there a few times since and just like Yukon Cornelius, Nothin'! |
