Starting new tiki build with a false window

Pages: 1 2 replies

Aloha! I am new around here, so a short intro. My name is Tyson and I live in the Chicago area. I have always loved tiki, tiki art, tiki culture, escapism, etc. Recently that has taken off, and now my wife is getting into the lifestyle! It was actually her idea to go from taking the extra space we had set aside for a wine cellar and turn it into a tiki bar!! So I am just gonna roll with it, and love every step of the way! We have a really good idea on how we are setting it up. My wife is a huge planner and she LOVES home projects. I just have to execute. Anyway, why I am here is that we are installing a 32inch Samsung frame tv in the tiki area as a false window. I know YouTube has ambience videos, but it gets so overwhelming with ads and such. I have zero experience with unreal engine or C++, I am more of a digital and traditional artist. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to get good scenery videos for the “window”? Even if it is a pay site, if the videos loop and are high quality. I look forward to sharing the build as it starts! Mahalo!

Hey Tyson. Welcome to the madness :)

A couple ideas for your screen.

  1. My friend, Scott, runs Tiki Bar Tech and sells interactive wireless devices which will drive a screen and let you interact and cause things to happen. The "Enchanted Portal" is the box that runs the screen and creates dynamic content. Other things can interact with it, including synchronized LED lights. He's got a number of wireless objects and keeps cooking up new ones.
  2. Ken Wallace just published an iOS app that will let you synchronize any video with hue lights, switches, and ESP devices so your whole room can respond to what's happening on the screen. So, kinda the reverse of Scott's since the video drives the room. He also has some great pre-rendered videos. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/idolsync-immersive-light-sync/id6758977004
