A new LA/OC station to check out 103.1
http://www.indie1031.fm/main.html

Hopefully, they'll be around for awhile and won't pull the plug like cool 94.3, Y107.1, Mars...

KROQ- let this be a warning..no more Metallica, Linkin Park, Disturbed...etc, etc,..oh yeah, people like VARIETY!

One can listen to WFMU (East Orange NJ) on the internet as it is one of the only Free-Form (no set programing) radio stations around. In NYC, I did not listen to radio for about 10 years until I moved and found WFMU by accident.

Some of the best shows:

BILL KELLY - Teenage Wasteland (Sundays 3-5pm)

DAVE THE SPAZZ - Music To Spazz By (Thursdays 8-11pm)

IRWIN- (Wednesday Noon−3pm) Irwin Chusid is the Producer/compiler of "Songs in the Key of Z: The Curious Universe of Outsider Music" and others, Various Esquivel compilations and others.

My Fav:

Antique Phonograph Music Program alt. w/ Thomas Edison's Attic (Tuesday evening, 7pm to 8pm EST)

I highly recommend it.

I miss KEXP a lot. You can listen online at http://www.kexp.org. It's a radio station connected to the University of Washingon and Paul Allen's Experience Music Project, no commercials, great variety. I don't have a soundcard on my machine at home, so no tunes for me. The morning show, John in the Morning, is fantastic. John actually plays music in the mornings, imagine that! On Fridays from 6-9, there's a rockabilly show called Shake the Shack that's a great way to start the weekend.

I second that recommendation!

Other great online shows:

Retro Cocktail Hour on KANU

Tuesday Night Rock 'n Roll Dance Party on WUSB
http://wusb.fm/rockandroll/titlepage.html

Whole Lotta Shakin' on WITR

Friendly Persuasion

Little Steven's Underground Garage - the only show on mainstream radio stations that's worth a damn!

Yeah, WFMU is listener supported. They have great pledge drive giveaways:

"The Happy Listeners Guide To Mind Control" tape of corporate and religious motivational pieces.

"Shut Up Little Man!" clandestine taping of some guys 2 drunken gay neighbors fights and of course the "Shemp Meditation Tape"

By the way Hummuhummu and Dr. Z., Shouldn't both of you be at WORK?! I do believe there is a program that lets your boss spy on your Internet activities.

Hey people...radio is a great thing. Thank god some people still care about it. Hey Atomic...yeah I have been a fan of WFMU for a long, long time now. Even though I live in Manhattan, I can't tune them in. It all depends on what neighborhood you live in. I do make it to thier record fairs though when they happen. Those are alot of fun.

I have a great tape of Rodney Bigenheimer on KROQ from the very early 80s. It's very cool. If I knew how, I would post it here as some kind of audio file.

You guys mentioned the 'Retro Cocktail Hour'. I gave that a listen a while bakc but I thought the host was a little too stiff...in his announcing that is...for my taste. cool music though.

Dave the Spazz rocks!!! He was cool enough to spin the entirety of my former bands demo cd, and a live set from a show At Continental!

Coffe and Smokes is another great web radio show. Alex did the same for us! And he was cool enough to still hve the demo and a live show, AND burn it to disc to replace my long lost copies!!!

Coffee 'n' Smokes with Alex

Radio is a great thing! Although all of the internet stations are great, I'm not at my computer 24/7...:.)
