Sheet Music for Baritone Ukulele

Pages: 1 4 replies

Anyone know where I can find some either near the Santa Monica area or the San Fernando Valley? Is the sheet music the same for baritone as it is for soprano? Hawaiian or vintage (1920s or 1930s) music is preferred. Also interested in online stores, but would prefer a physical store nearby.

I would think that sheet music would be the same for a baritone ukulele as say a soprono. For example, a G Major chord is still a G Major chord no matter if you're playing ukulele or steel guitar.

However, the chordal inversions may be different.

Tiki King, what's the word on this?

The chords are the same, but the "shapes" play different chords. A "C" chord shape(first string, third fret) on the soprano is a "G" on the Baritone. You could capo a Baritone at the fourth fret and play it like a soprano, but to play soprano sheet music on a baritone, (and have it sound "right") you would need to transpose it. There is a handy transposing disk on my website, in the "Ukulele school" section. Hope this helps!
Cheers!

P.S. in Santa Monica, check out McCabes Music, they are pretty much the Ukulele mecca in the south...

Thanks guys! I will tell my friend who just got his uke to check out your site Tiki King. I also thought of McCabe's, but didn't know if they were more just for regular guitars. Thanks for the tip.

Aloha!

Per the San Fernando Valley request, Baxter Northrup Music (14534 Ventura Blvd 818-788-7510) has a nice selection of ukes and uke music. It's in Sherman Oaks about a block west of Van Nuys Blvd. on the south side of the street. Just so you know.
