I'm looking for any other groovy 50's style motels. I'm gonna be (maybe) in Portland on June 12 for a fundraiser at an Eagles Hall down there... http://www.johnnymercury.com/eagles.htm if yer interested... and there may be a few of us that would like to take over a cool motel. Anyway - the googie motels in Portland are for the most part pretty ghetto. But, I'd have to say, if you're not afraid of NE Portland, go ahead and try the Palms. They do a good job of keeping up the sign, so I have reason to believe it's family owned and fairly clean and well-cared for. If you're looking for a NICE and reasonable place to stay, I'd recommend the Mallory. It's right downtown by Powells, and it supposedly has an old-school swanky ballroom/dining room. Reasonable rates, too. There's also a cheap motel next to the Jasmine Tree, but I don't recall what it's called. Looks scary, but hey - probably really cheap. :wink: Hope all has been well, F.

Just a couple suggestions of the many good places to eat and drink besides the Alibi and Jasmine Tree. I miss Portland! And I really miss Henry Ford's! :(

Probably not very googie but it boasts an all nude wait staff. I love the local color and it sounds like something that was on That Wild Wild World of Jane Mansfield flick. Has anyone ever been? I'd love to have a few matchbooks from this place littering my glove compartment.
