If anyone is going to be in the South Bay area on the first of May,I will be dropping by The Purple Orchid sometime in the evening. How do you identify each other at these places?Hawaiian shirts, carnations in the lapel,a swipe on the nose ala "The Sting"?I'd love to chat up some fun folks while I'm there-I'll be with some fun gals,so I'm sure we'll have a blast.

There'll be quite a few people there, that's the night that Fisherman Trio (visiting from New York) is playing:

It won't be hard to find the Tiki Central folks. If you're unsure, ask the lovely bartenders, and they'll point you in the right direction.

Hey Doc!

you can always tell the TC people...we are the best looking and most intelligent people in any room!

Just kidding, (for my part, at least)

I will be there to see the Fishermen! Should be very cool!!!!

PS, I am so ugly my neighboor once asked me if my butt had grown teeth!!!

Hey Doc,

2/3 of our trio (Fisherman Trio) are Tiki Centralites. Myself (drums) and Fisherman (vibes) Our bassist is stuck in the stone age, and barely knows how to turn on a computer, let alone join Tiki Central... But I'm sure you'll enjoy his company none-the-less... You'll be able to spot us easily. We'll have a bunch of instruments; and we'll be the only New Yorkers in the bar.

See ya' in a week or so...

I've said it before, and now I'm going to say it again -- Fisherman's Trio is fanEFFINGtastic. We're terribly spoiled here in Southern California, but this is definitely one thing we're missing -- NYC is very lucky to have them. They're playing a few more shows here before Oasis, try to make it to one if you can. Even if you're going to get to see them at Oasis, trust me, it won't be enough! Soak up as much Fisherman as you can, because it'll have to last for a very, very long time -- who knows when they'll be back?

From the Fisherman's Burlesque Trio website:

Tuesday May 4th
at The Continental Room
115 W. Santa Fe Ave. Fullerton, CA (9pm / FREE!!!)

Wednesday May 5th
at The Baja Cantina Restaurant
311 Washington Ave. Marina Del Rey, CA (6pm / FREE!!!)

CINCO DE MAYO with THE FISHERMAN!!!
Can anything beat that? Come celebrate Cinco De Mayo at this authentic Mexican restaurant on the waterfront. We'll have plenty of surprises up our mangas!!!

Thursday May 6th
at The Mercury Lounge
5871 Hollister Ave. Goleta, CA (9pm / $7)

The Fisherman Trio's performance of the beautiful exotica classics would have been enough to make any of us very happy, but there was more than that -- a lovely hula honey/go-go dancer, and a few surprising song choices that, if performed by a lesser band, would have been cringe-inducing, but instead were rousing. The whole place was up on their feet, and I think a few folks were on chairs.

And now, the pics:

Go-Go dancer, Mitzi Tart:

This is our own tikidrummer, he was tikidrumming for most of the songs, but not this one:

Mrs. TikiPug & her great tank top:

It was a percussion-heavy evening, with tikidrummer on drums, Fisherman on vibes, and Crazy Al on coconuts & other assorted thingamajigs:

I can't quite explain what this was all about, but if you spend enough time with Tina & I, you'll get it:

Fisherman put ants in our collective pants:

Mitzi Tart came back out to hula for us:

Sometimes, Doctor Z reminds me of someone, but I can never quite remember who...

BTW - If you're wondering why TraderPup & I are dressed so formally, check out this thread to see what we did after Fisherman was done:

Oh! I almost forgot! It was really great to meet docwoods, I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you more, I didn't see you again after we chatted. I hope you got a chance to say hello to a few more TCers before you headed out!

D

Well goodness,Humu Humu-you were the cutest thing! So nice to chat with and you looked terrifff!!! Never mind that silly bouncer who asked you if you were "on the town Barbie"-nutsy,he was!I would have loved to have chatted with more TC'ers, but by time the we left,it was two in the a.m. Chicago time and I was absolute toast! Next time,I promise!A fun fun night-I look forward to the next time!!!
