Aloha-

I know this subject was talked about briefly in a thread about Tiki Road Trip. The reason I bring it up is that I just got a couple of vintage Clifton's postcards in the mail today that I bought on Ebay, and decided to do a little web browsing for history. I know there's a mention of the Clifton's website on the previous post, but this guy at

also has some cool views

Cool postcards don. My grandparents used to take me to Clifton's Cafeteria in the Lakewood shopping center when I was just a sprout. It was one my fave places to eat.

SHipWreck,

Dang dude! You ate at the Cliftons in Lakewood too? I was there in '68 (man!).

(I think I remember seeing you there doing weird things to the meatloaf, when I was doing weird things to the mashed potatoes)

The Tiki bar may return to Cliftons.
In today's LA Times LA Now section:

Updated Clifton Cafeteria comes into focus: The new owner of the Clifton Cafeteria, Andrew Meieran -- already the owner of hip bar The Edison -- has revealed his plans for the classic downtown eatery, reports Blogdowntown. The cafeteria will be open 24 hours a day, and Meieran plans to open a speakeasy-style lounge and a tiki bar above the dining room. Ultimately, Meirean said his goal is to restore Clifton's to “what it was like in the '30s."
