Bamboo question for a bar

Pages: 1 2 replies

So yesterday I roughed out a generic bar and wanted to trim the bartop with bamboo. What I have is a 3/4 inch plywood top with 3/16 plexiglass covering. I picked up some 2" bamboo and was thinking about cutting a 1" groove making it U shaped to fit around the edge. Sounds great but I'm not sure if it's doable. Is there a better method or an easy way to do it this way? Also what is the best way to go about cutting it? Jigsaw? Skillsaw? Tablesaw? or hacksaw blade by hand? Thanks in advance for helping a newbie out.

The way to do it is with a table saw. Set the fence to make the the groove big enough for your top and run it through on each side. Then use something to knock out the nodes and free up that slice. If you have a table saw. it won't be too tough. The stuff does get a bit squirelly on ther though. You'll then need to angle cut the end to meet right on the corners.

Hmmm...I just answered this here too:
