That stuff all exists in Vegas, try Fremont Street South. I took some Japanese friends on a tour of Vegas once, saw the strip and as a joke went to the worse sections of Fremont. They loved that part best - couldn't get them away from it.

CBGBs was a great punky place in NYC, but when I was there in the mid-80's it was already pretty trashed out and half-decent groups didn't play there anymore. Don't kid yourselves, the owners killed the place by refusing to pay for and promote talented bands. "experimental" is just another name for working for free. The Pyramid Club was the best, and Area was a close second. They were way more influential than CB, and are long gone (I think!).

As long as the Ear Bar is still there, NY is worth going to.
