He has less in common with it than Leonard Bernstein. (Actually, most exotica musicians were classically or jazz band trained.) At the very simplest, Tiki is a retro appreciation. It's all about discovering and enjoying a way of life that flourished half a century ago. 'Tiki Modern' explains it perfectly. Why waste time trying to explain it in more detail? It's obvious. Modern-era songwriters have nothing to do with classic Tiki; the whole idea is absurd. Why discuss the subject?
