Hi folks!
A big thank you to everyone who visits and takes an interest in my Hobby gone dangerously Wrong! Mahalos!
ravenne-would love to see him move in a place besides my brain! I imagine his feet all graceful and dancey while his arms are like Twizzlers stapled to his torso, all swinging and flapping manically! Quit with the Sunshine and Lollipops! :D
Babalu-No big logs yet-I got a couple of little projects to gets my chops on fer now! Babysteps! As for the little ropes that tie in the skulls? I was thinking....How would these skulls stay in place on this guy? Ropes!Maybe someday i'll bust out a 3-d cannibal king, but that will have to be added onto the wishlist for now...maybe early Spring...Thanks for the wood offer..i may take you up on it in the future! Bunnies!
Brad...All Hail your Robot tiki-soon to be born on that canvas you're bustin out! Maybe we should change your name to B-RAD,cause you be RAD,Brad!
Chongo! Thanks for the Kudos! Feets are fun to draw! You nailed it with the Big Daddy observation! Between him and Marvel comics and Art history books,my youth was filled with an encyclopedia of twisted visual ephemera! Can't wait to see ya in a few weeks!
Sneaky! Didn't mean to time it like that, but i guess October is a perfect time for all this skull/Cannibal stuff! (*)PTTTTTT! right back atcha! :D
Started that "Wandering Island" piece Wednesday night-sketched it all out with water soluble pencil-based on a compilation of drawings and first attempts at painting/Thursday night-did sepia washes in ink for the shadows and lighting/Friday-began colored washes over those and then paintpen outlines in Dark brown and other details here and there....20 hours in so far! Sorry, didn't get any good progress shots on the underdrawing and washes, but here's what i gots so far!
It's around 3-4 feet long (i'll have to measure it-I'm bad like that! Where's that personal assistant i was promised!?!?) so that and the "Arrival" will be well worth the effort just for the impact they'll be handing out at the Bali Hai!
I was really inspired most by the grey overcast feeling of the ink and bleach drawing i did a while ago..

But there were a few problems....fresh water/only one style of hut/scattered, as opposed to huge purposeful tikis/propulsion of said craft....i think i solved most of these dilemmas...

a big tiki at the top of the hill....also note the different styles of huts-encouraging a narrative
that evokes the Pacific journeys of the polynesians...

and even fresh water and fire for these brave voyagers!
Here's the gates so far-flanked by two singing tiki-ish fellas..

i think i got the wood nailed on the prow...happyhappy!

Here's the back part in progress...with a Tanga ta Manu/Orongo feller!

and his an UBER-DETAIL, so you can see the sepia wash/ink wash over it/and how i work up the layers of paintpen now..

More in a few days fellow travellers! :D
