Aloha Hewey!
Thanks for the props...I feel that, instead of just letting the painting itself be an end to itself, that most art needs a story...First off,to give yourself a framework and a narrative to help flesh it out,and also for the viewer,so it all makes "sense" to them also..puts em into the world more,so to speak...That's where sketchbooks and notes and reading come in..there's a zillion artists who have thought and strived to make sense of it all and the best part is that they've left these writings and paintings for us to learn, grow, and evolve. Thanks for noticing!
Sam- Thank YOU Sir! The whole mystery of the Polynesian migration,in fact, all of the contact that went on long ago is compelling...Just how did they do it? And what kind of Mighty Men were brave enough to undertake such dangerous journeys to new lands...Blows my mind! Mary Blair,Grandville, Brueghel, Blake, Durer, Dore, Big Daddy Roth,Tex Avery,Jack Kirby,Crumb, you name it! It all seeps in there and spills out at the appropriate times....I need to get that Mary Blair book,i know Tim Biskup has one! The more of her work i see, the more enamored i am to her joyful work..Thanks so much for that compliment! Made my day! :)
