Tiki Central / General Tiki / Tiki mug situation at the Mai Kai. What's the deal?

I don't know if I agree, tiki killi - mugs are an important part of the overall tiki experience if for no other reason they are right there in front of you. It's great to see a table littered with ceramic tikis, coconuts, etc. Fun places like the Bahooka are a little less special because most drinks are served in standard restaurant glassware. Sure, Tiki Ti doesn't use mugs either, but you are enveloped in tiki in that splendid little closet.

How much money can the Mai Kai really save switching from Tiki Farm to generic, crappy Chinese mugs? Tiki Farm mugs are Chinese made, after all, but they are designs from current artists and not some poorly detailed copy of a copy of a copy. And shouldn't support of the tiki community be a two way street - support the local bars and suppliers?

Maybe there's more to this story than just a financial decision.
