As much as I have tried to resist chiming on this topic, I am finally caving in.

Since I somewhat reluctantly call myself a "tiki snob", it should also be known that in certain situations I have to set my feelings aside and allow acceptance for items like the Walgreens Tiki Fountain.

A few months ago, after a really, really crappy day at work, I came home to find a plastic bag sitting on my front porch. Inside the bag was one of these fountains. I had no idea who left it there. Seeing it only made things seem a little worse. Crappy day and now a crappy, cheap-ass fountain and no one blame for leaving it there. I took the fountain out to the garage, bag and all and stuck in one of my "to go" piles.

A couple of days later, my daughter called me to ask me how I liked the gift she had left me.
Huh, I replied?
Didn't you get the little tiki fountain I got for you?

I stumbled carefully over my words due to the shame I felt for being so judgmental about receiving a gift from some unknown person. Yes, I said. I found it and I wasn't sure who left it for me. I really like it and thanks for thinking about me.

Now granted, I would have never, ever bought this for myself. Not even close to anything I classify as "tiki". But it made me think long and hard; this may not be my impression of what tiki is, but to my daughter, this is her impression of what tiki is to her and who am I to tell her otherwise?

I guess for me, the same thinking should apply here on Tiki Central; I would much rather let others have an impression and interest in some form of tiki, than no impression at all, even if it not the same as mine.

I have learned also that logistics can play a part in one's tastes, if you are not lucky enough to have the bounty of tiki I have in California, you have to make do.

Now this gift came from a daughter that usually thinks most of my interests are stupid or boring, so to have her actually take the time to stop somewhere, look around and find something, drive over and drop it off really made my day.

So, if you like and enjoy the Walgreen's Tiki Fountain, like and enjoy it, no matter what anyone says.

For the rest of us (myself included) hate it, but from a distance!

Psycho Tiki D (I know I am, insert snob here)!
