But I wanted to get on a site where I could talk about Fred, the South Pacific, Easter Island and my mysterious, nagging fascination with all this... ever since I was a kid, one of the first books I ever read was Kon Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl. Well, I finally did it. The fact is, as a designer, I always wanted to sculpt an Aku-Aku Statue from Easter Island. I made up a 28" tall Aku-Aku statue to put in my garden... and to make a long story short, "Fred the Aku" is now being produced. If you go to http://www.youtube.com and type in "first freds" you can see him being born! And if you go to http://www.fredtheaku.com you can see my website! Remember in Close Encounters when Richard Dreyfuss kept making that mountain out of mashed potatoes?... well that's how I felt when I was sculpting Fred! Not sure whether I was going crazy or not.
