Kiki-Thanks so much for enjoying "Night of the Falling Stars"
Great seeing you and Squid and Toe and Carolyn that evening!
and thanks for that Mythology book from my past! love those etchings!they bring me back to 4th grade!
Omigosh! Talk about gift Night!
Caroline brought me the Monkey Motherload!
And Squid brought me some BITCHIN frames and this...

a battery operated bunny (sans fur) to paint up like a robot.....or something fantastical!
I am so blessed to have such cool Ohana!!!
Anyways....
Gimme a call and i can give you some solid framing advise for your Sea monster!

Swampfire-Douglas! Thank you! As a kid, I used to dig on the dioramas at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago! Plus, those dern Golden Books and the How and Why Wonder Books...
The Above/Below scenes must have seeped in! I'd love to see a Doug Horne Kraken piece!!!!

GROG-Same to you!

Mango!-MAhalos my friend!
I'm hoping to make them feel a little less aggro, despite their actions..
I'm trying to get them to appear more controlled by their destiny..
a destiny somehow commanded by the stars falling from the sky...
The same stars that have activated the nearby volcano...
I hope, when it's finished, that it grants you years of daydreams....
:)

MooneyTiki-GRACIAS! Thanks for the enthusiasm!
I'll keep em coming,don't worry!
i know of nothing else...

Brad!
Thank pal!
Now get off line and get that octo-girl finished for your show!

Robb-the base color is successive washes of Naples yellow, burnt sienna, and a couple of other warm tones.
i just streaked them down the canvas...let it dry....and added another layer...

Clarita-Actually,Terrill was encouraging me to read and draw but i couldn't for some reason...
Guess i felt out of sorts or maybe i was storing and accumulating visual data for later...
Or maybe it was burnout from Oasis, not sure, but upon return to the studio....CRACKO!
Back in the Saddle!Picnic! :)

TikiLee!
mmmmmmmmm! ZIPFIZZ!

Brad!
Less reciting Moby Dick-more painting!
it's like you're addicted to TC or something...

Bowana-humans winning? hmmmmmmmmmm....
We'll see...
No Bufadadora..it cost some $60 to get a ride down there to stay for half N HOUR! Photograph it
and then head back...
Working with a BLOWHARD like BigToe 3 days a week is enough!
Couldn't find any miniature flags...
you may have the only one on EARTH!

Hey Sam!
Thanks buddy!
the study i posted was after about 5 false starts..
i would grab the strongest details from the failures
and build upon them... Looks like it's paying off!
Thanks so much for "getting" it so far!
Viva La Tilt-A-Whirl!
:)

Well, here's the progress on "Night of the Falling Stars"
Fleshing out more detail/Bringing areas out/Pushing areas back....
Burnt Umber and Naples Yellow are my friends! :)

Getting the stars star-ted...
Note the tapa-ish line for the cloud/volcano smoke...
this way, the ocean floor is separated from the surface
which is now separated from the sky...

Here's the Land Encroaching Beast slowly receiving some form...

Here's underwater big Squid,a little more fleshed out..

more ocean floor-trying to make the shafts of light more sculptural...

I'm really pleased with the way this area is developing...

A lil more work on the foreground sinking boat and the strange chief and his odd ceremony in the background...

The volcano and the stylized clouds and vegetation slowly
taking shape and getting some well-deserved depth...

and Lastly...
I'd like to say Farewell to two old friends....
"Dance of the Cannibal King"
36 x 36"
gouache on canvas

and "Arrival of the Pineapple King"
48 x 72" (4 x 6 feet!)

I sold them BOTH at the Freaky Boutiki Gallery this weekend!
Thanks HAnk!
