On that note, what I've learned from the Islander Bamboo is that the nails are usually put in right next to those hard parts that separate the various sections. Theses areas have wood that is stronger and will touch the wall and give it the support it needs so it wont split.

I started out putting up some trim in my tiki hut and put the holes in the middle of the sections and split several pieces before it donned on me where the original nail were put and why.
