I really didn't understand what people were arguing about with "authentic tiki style" until I ran across this thread a few nights ago: http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=31087&forum=1&start=0&hilite=1920s%20hawaii I think the big misconception is there is a enormous difference between "tiki", and "tiki style" the latter (as I understand it) being a definitive fixed art style/movement with certain boundries that make it what it is. Whereas something "tiki" may have a tiki in it, but is not necessarily of "tiki style". All art movements have defining characteristics that make them what they are so they can be categorized, thus (again as I understand it) is the term "tiki style" (but correct me if I am wrong, the "world war tiki thread" above was quite the long read and got pretty technical, this is just what I took away from it). Ok now I am running away before people start throwing the rotten tomatoes. |
