Aloha Ohana!
Welpers...this was my last weekend before MOJAVE OASIS
so i thought i'd go a LITTLE PRIMITIVE
this last stretch and ..well scroll down and CHEGGITOUT!

Bought a plaster life-size skull at Michaels
brought it home and it was broken!!!!
So i went back and got another one
(I'll be giving the defective one to BigToe 'cause he likes to paint defective stuff!) :)

Anyways ,i did some acrylic washes on it to age it,gleaning some tricks from Squid
to give it a nice old moldy skull appearance!

After that i started just grabbing Polynesian motifs out of the air and
ploppin em down in a meaning ful fashion...
i added the sun guy on the top o the noggin to lighten things up...
We're Primitive, but not Savages when it comes to mirth here!

Anyways,after that i sanded it a bit
and incised some more designs into the painted motifs
and stained over them with a few more glazes of raw umber,etc....

and here it is!

"the Ancestor Skull"
acrylic and cel-vinyl on plaster skull

one side..

the back with the sun guy

the other side

and a close-up to show you how i rubbed and buffed and scratched it into pseudo authenticity!

i hope i sell it at MOasis,it gives me the creeples....
There appears to be a LOT of Mana in it!

Next up... just a silly little one
"the Cannibal King"
acrylic and cel-vinyl on wood

Then it's BUST OUT the Colburn Wood-burning Kit
Time to go PRIMITIVE with that medium for awhile...

I'd sketch it out in pencil
wood-burn it
erase the pencil lines (or not!)
and then tint over it with light washes of cel-vinyl....

"the Cannibal's Burden"
wood-burn and cel-vinyl tinting on wood

Later a Philosophical Cloud entered the studio and
during the late night hours
i contemplated a sad Cannibal
remorseful over his loneliness
caused by his overabundant appetite....

"the Crying Cannibal"
wood-burn and cel-vinyl tinting on wood

this one used a variety of color tints for a soft colored woodcut look...

Here's a close-up of the Tears of a Cannibal...

That's it for Now! Gotta go hit the Hay and rest up..
This comin weekend's gonna be a DOOZY!!!!!
Night all!
