You can probably get some knot-tying ideas from the Knotical Art booth at Crafted in San Pedro. The man that is the artist/tug boat worker also takes custom orders.

The Maritime Museum in San Pedro has some examples of knot boards and art that sailors have made while out at sea. It's a cool small museum to visit if you've never been.
