Although not Tiki, the Peppermill Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge chain has closed another one!!! Many tiki central members on the West Coast have gone to at least one of these "abomination of interior decoration" lounges. The location in Daly City is now closed but currently still furnished. There is a realty sign on the building and a flyer that states "Thanks Daly City for 30 great years" (maybe they meant to add "and one really SHI*TY year" to the "30 years" sentence).
According to Yahoo yellow pages there is still one Peppermill left in the Bay area (unless they just closed, too);

I would call first if you are going to make the trip.
Why do we like the Peppermill? What makes it an "interior decoration abomination"? Mr. Verbose thanks you for asking. The Peppermill chain decided in the early mid-seventies to build the ugliest restaurants and tackiest bars in the world and make them all essentially the same!!! (Well, this really may NOT have been their intention, but it is the result) The bars are really dark with a color scheme of purple(?) and are designed so that you can't really tell where the carpet ends and the walls and furniture begin! The basic theme in the lounge is DISCO!!!! Use of mirrors and chrome also rampant and the seating areas are designed like conversation pits without the pit, EXCEPT for the fireplace seating!! The fireplace seating is a 3/4 circle surrounding and circular fireplace that has bubbling water and FIRE!!! This alone is enough for anyone of you to see if you have a Peppermill still in business near you and RUSH right out to one tonight!!!
If you are hungry, you can eat in the overdone restaurant with fake cherry(?) trees everywhere!! UG-LEEE!
There are also Peppermill Casino's with trademark ugly restaurants and bars in Las Vegas and Reno. And NO, I am NOT an investor!!
Like Tiki joints, if we don't patronize the interesting places in life, we will soon be left with only Chevy's to go to!!

NOTE: I just found out the Santa Clara Peppermill is gone!
