I think that a fabric like this would be better.

You would need to buy some and see if you get good light transmission though.
And on mine I did a hand paint job, best would be to make a stencil and spray the paint on
while the fabric is flat before you put it on the tube.
On the tube I used plastic, and this will melt depending on the wattage of the light blub.
I still need to do a bulb test to see how high I can go on the wattage.
Ok here it comes... "where did you get the tube" I found this at the antique show here in Ohio.
It is really best to just look and look for this stuff flea markets, thrift stores ect...
This is the only way you will find this stuff at a good price.
BUT... you can't say I'm going to go find a tube right now.
You get what you get, and make with it when you get it or hold on to it till you get all the parts
you need to make this item what you have in mind.
That's how I do it.

If I were you I would start looking for the tubes right now.
It is the main thing you need.
